Paddle boarders rescued after swept into Deschenes rapids

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Two paddle boarders in distress were rescued from Ottawa Fire’s water rescue team in the city’s west end when a strong current took hold of their boards.

Ottawa Fire Services said they received a couple of 911 calls Sunday morning of two paddle boarders in distress near Britannia that were swept into the Deschenes rapids by an extremely strong current.

The paddle boarders managed to tie themselves off to each other and tie themselves off to a buoy.

Water rescue arrived on scene and were able to confirm the locations of the people immediately and launched a boat into the water to help the paddle boarders back to shore.

The two people were brought to shore at the Nepean Sailing club and were assessed by Ottawa paramedics.

There were no reported injuries.
