BBQ fire quickly melts siding of home in Orléans

Fire crews were called to a family BBQ in Orléans after receiving multiple 911 calls for heavy smoke and flames.

It happened around 6:09 p.m. on June 15, Father’s Day. Teams arrived at a home in the 100 block of Teal Crescent and found the flames had spread to the nearby siding of the house creating the thick, black smoke as it burned.

The building was an end-unit townhome, and officials could see the source was a BBQ that was fully engulfed. They attacked the flames quickly and noted that a fence was also ablaze. Firefighters did say that the propane tank attached to the BBQ was releasing from its relief valve.

Another crew searched the home for people and to check if the flames had spread inside.

By 6:28 p.m., firefighters confirmed the blaze was under control and it had not spread further. To make sure nothing could reignite, crews cut down the section of fence and soaked it with water. Parts of the home’s siding had melted away due to the high heat.

No injuries were reported and the family will not be displaced from the fire.
