Stolen licence plate leads to drug possession charges: OPP

What started as a hit for a stolen licence plate, ended with over a dozen charges laid, including drug possession.

Ottawa OPP received an ALPR camera notification about a stolen licence plate on Hwy 417 near Almonte shortly before noon on Nov. 27.

Officers conducted a traffic stop, during which it was revealed that the two individuals in the vehicle were on conditions not to be with each other. One of the individuals was also wanted and had multiple arrest warrants.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and seized both fentanyl and cocaine.

One woman from Almonte, and one man from Mississippi Mills, are now facing over a dozen charges.

Alison Burke-Filewod, 41, has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin);
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Cocaine;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000;
  • Obstruct peace officer;
  • Fail to comply with probation order;
  • Operate a vehicle without insurance;
  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates; and
  • Fail to apply for permit upon becoming owner.

Terrence Owens, 41, has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin);
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Cocaine;
  • Obstruct peace officer;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; and
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court; four counts.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
