Opposition demands MP’s resignation after document altering

OTTAWA – Opposition MPs are accusing the federal government of fostering a “culture of deceit” after a cabinet minister admitted she had altered an already-signed document.
The word “not” was scribbled onto a document that would have granted millions to a faith-based aid agency.
Federal MP Bev Oda admitted it was her choice to alter the document and apologized.
The opposition says Oda’s apology is not enough and Liberal MP Bob Rae says the issue runs deeper.
“Minister Oda could not have made this decision by herself. She could not have done what she did without instructions from the Prime Minister’s office and, for all we know, from the Prime Minister himself.” Rae said.
Rae is demanding to know Stephen Harper’s role and is calling this a prime example of how the Conservatives operate.
Prime Minister Harper is standing behind the MP saying she made the right move when she ordered the document altered and that these are decisions ministers have to make.
Oda had previously denied having any knowledge of who altered the document.
The House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee has voted 6-4 in support of rebuking Oda, the motion will be handed to the house speaker in the coming days.
