By-law officials face ‘aggression’ as they ramp up enforcement

The city of Ottawa's by-law officers faced “aggression” as they increase enforcement on the one-year anniversary of the 'Freedom Convoy'.

A tweet from Ottawa By-law stated officers were being “met with aggression” on Saturday, Jan. 28, as they dealt with protesters in the downtown core.

The tweet also warned “interfering with investigations and aggression towards any law enforcement will not be tolerated.”

Ottawa police and by-law presence downtown was increased dramatically as the city prepared for some 500 protesters to return to the city.

By-law officers are looking to clamp down on excessive noise, open air fires, fireworks, illegal structures, public urination and defecation, littering, parking infractions and idling vehicles.
