A hair salon on wheels to serve Ottawa’s less fortunate

A new community organization is looking to give haircuts to homeless men and women in Ottawa.
The Rolling Barber is looking to raise $15,000 dollars to turn an old school bus into a moving hair salon. A crowd funding website for the project has already tallied more than $1,200.
Director Francois Thibeault told The Rick Gibbons Show on 1310 NEWS, his group got a bus donated to them just last week.
He is excited about the opportunity to empower those less fortunate in the community, and help them get a bit of confidence back.
“Sometimes clean, stylish hair is the last little push you need to get a job interview or to do well during that interview,” he explained.
Thibeault said the Rolling Barber is set for a trial run next month at Centre 454 Anglican Social Services on King Edward Avenue. He then hopes to launch the service fully in July.
“The idea is not only to offer this service in the summertime and then disappear.” He added, “The idea is to set up a service that will be available to the community for years to come, not just a few months.”
In order to do that, Thibeault anticipated operating costs to be up to $6,000 per year.
