UPDATE: Air Canada suspends flights to sunny destinations due to rising COVID-19 cases

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Travellers planning on trekking to sunny destinations like Aruba, Havana or Grand Cayman received some bad news from Air Canada after the Canadian company announced its suspension of a list of flights.

On its website, the airline said the suspended destinations include Antigua, Samaná, Curaçao, Exuma, Grenada, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, Bermuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Martin/Sint Maarten, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as the above mentioned.

This, Air Canada said, is in response to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.

The flights to the listed destinations will be suspended for 90 days, as of January 24 through April 30.

“To help ensure that Canadians are not stranded abroad, Air Canada plans to operate a number of one-way commercial flights from affected destinations in order to return customers at the suspended destinations to Canada.” the announcement explained.

For a limited time, flights to Canada from these destinations will still operate as scheduled, however, there is always a chance these flights will cease operation without notice.

Correction: An earlier version of the story included the wrong dates of when flights would be canceled. The information has since been updated.
