Central library plans moving forward with shortlist of designers

The Central Library is one step closer to becoming a reality with the release of the top potential design teams.

On Tuesday, the city released the shortlist which consists of the top five teams that will help design the new downtown library.

The list:

 – Bing Thom Architects (Canada) – GRC Architects (Canada)

 – Diamond Schmitt Architects (Canada) – KWC Architects (Canada)

 – Mecanoo International b.v. (Holland) – NORR Architects & Engineers Ltd (Canada)

 – Patkau Architects (Canada) – MSDL Architects (Canada) – GRC Architects (Canada)

 – Schmidt/hammer/lassen/ architects (Denmark) – KPMB Architects (Canada) – Hobin Architecture Inc. (Canada)

 

The initial Request for Qualifications was issued in May 2017 and the final selection is expected in the coming months.

Once selected there will be concepts created and public consultations held.

The $168 million library project is a partnership between the city and Library and Archives Canada and will be built at 557 Wellington Street.
