Convoy protesters promise not to honk car, truck horns for 4 hours Sunday

The so-called ‘freedom convoy’ that has been protesting in downtown Ottawa for more than a week is giving residents a temporary respite from the noise.

The convoy participants have vowed not to honk their car and truck horns on Sunday, February 6 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

In a release issued late Saturday night, organizers say the decision was both a “gesture of good will,” and “out of respect for the Lord's Day, for members of our military who have sacrificed and who continue to sacrifice so much for our freedom, for the men and women in blue who are doing such a superb job protecting us.”

Convoy protesters have been accused of wreaking havoc on Ottawa residents of the downtown core, in part because of the incessant horn honking that has been going on since the protest began last weekend.

An injunction hearing to stop convoy protesters from honking downtown has been adjourned until Monday.

The proposed class-action lawsuit on behalf of thousands of downtown Ottawa residents is seeking millions of dollars in damages and an injunction “prohibiting the continuation of the nuisance.''

Ottawa lawyer Paul Champ appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Saturday, February 5 in a virtual hearing to argue the lawsuit.

Justice Hugh McLean adjourned the hearing to allow the lawyer for the defendants to prepare a defence.
