Fire crews extinguish two-alarm blaze in Old Ottawa East

The Ottawa Fire Service reports a two-alarm fire at 135 Concord St. South in Old Ottawa East is under control as of 9:12 a.m.

Firefighters were called to the nine-unit building just before 9 a.m., Monday.

20 people were evacuated from the building, Fire Services says all nine units will be inhabitable.

That leaves an estimated 25 people displaced.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are on scene, providing support and relief for victims.

Hydro Ottawa reported a power outage in the area affecting 535 customers due to the blaze. As of 11:40 a.m., power has been restored to 519 customers, leaving 16 customers still without power.

Hydro Ottawa crews estimate power will be restored to all customers by 12:30 p.m.

One firefighter sustained an ankle injury. 

No other injuries reported.

The cost of damages is not yet known.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
