Sheffield Road is closed between Bantree Street and Leeds Avenue in southeast Ottawa after a car took out a hydro pole.
The vehicle took out the bottom half of the pole just after 2 p.m. Friday, leaving the rest suspended in mid air.
Hydro Ottawa said it is not unusual for a pole to stay up after impact when power lines can hold up top portion.
The road closure is expected to last until 9 p.m. while crews replace the utility pole.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
