Ottawa city councillors holding Q&A on Bill 23

By CityNews Ottawa

Two Ottawa city councillors are holding an online forum tonight (Nov. 23) to help residents better understand the Ford government's housing bill means for Ottawa.

Councillors Jeff Leiper, Kitchissippi ward, and Glen Gower, Stittsville ward, are hosting the event.

Leiper told CityNews Ottawa that Bill 23 would cut development charges which have historically been used to pay for new city infrastructure and support new housing projects and subdivisions.

“That is going to shift as Bill 23 goes through, and the burden of paying for that new infrastructure is going to fall on taxpayers,” said Leiper.

The event is being hosted on zoom from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The councillors will be available for questions along with and a panel of subject matter experts including Ray Sullivan, Ottawa Land Trust; Kristi Ross, Planning/Environmental Lawyer; Christine McCuaig, Principal Planning Consulting, Q9 Design; Sally McIntyre, General Manager, Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority; and David Flemming, Heritage Ottawa.

Details and a link to the webinar can be found on councillors Leiper's and Gower's websites.
