Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) battled through heavy smoke conditions while responding to a residential high-rise fire in Beacon Hill South.

OFS responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting smoke and flames inside a building on Jasmine Crescent, off of Arrowsmith and Beaverhill drives, shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Crews reported visible black smoke that could be seen from Highway 174 while on route to the scene.

Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible from the front of the building and OFS confirmed the fire had started in an apartment on the 15th floor.

At 8:42 a.m., firefighters completed searching the apartment through the heavy smoke and confirmed there were no occupants inside.
