Ottawa firefighters quickly knock down grease fire at Lowertown Brewery

By Alex Black

There are no injuries reported after a kitchen fire at Lowertown Brewery in the ByWard Market.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a grease fire at the restaurant at 73 York Street, between By Ward Market Square and William Street, around 9 a.m. Friday, April 22.

There were flames in the kitchen when firefighters arrived on scene and the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.

OFS says due to the quick response and a fast attack, the fire was contained to the kitchen area and there is minimal damage.

Firefighters have ventilated the residual smoke out of the structure and health inspector is responding.

It was determined the fire started inside a deep fryer when it was first turned on.
