Ottawa Public Health reporting six new COVID-19 related deaths in latest update

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting six new COVID-19 related deaths in its latest update released on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
In its latest COVID-19 update, which is now provided every Tuesday and Friday, the health unit is reporting 35 people in hospital with the virus along with four people in intensive care units (ICUs).
There are 509 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last seven days, and 19 new outbreaks in institutional settings.
OPH recently revealed the city has entered a new wave of COVID-19.
The news was revealed in OPH's latest COVID snapshot, which is released once a week on Thursdays.
The health unit said key indicators suggest a rise of COVID-19 in Ottawa.
OPH said wastewater virus detection levels are high and increasing, as its testing per cent positivity. OPH said hospital admissions remain moderate and are relatively unchanged since the last update.
“We are also heading into the respiratory illness season where we expect respiratory viruses to be circulating,” OPH said in a tweet. “The same strategies we use to fight COVID-19 can help protect you from other viruses.”
All Ottawa residents aged 18 and older are now eligible to receive the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose, and will be offered the bivalent vaccine when an appointment is booked.
“This booster is an added layer of protection, giving your body even more ways, it can fight COVID-19,” OPH stated.
