Six people have overdosed within a 14-hour period in Ottawa, three of them fatally, and police think fentanyl may have been mixed in with other illegal drugs.
Police were called to three separate locations, where five people required emergency medical treatment in possible drug overdoses.
While the incidents are still under investigation, police think cocaine and possibly fentanyl were involved.
Police warn of the dangers of using drugs in the first place, but also remind people that any drug can be cut with fentanyl, and that there is no easy way to know if drugs contain fentanyl.
Illicit fentanyl is much more toxic than other pharmaceutical opioids, and even a very small amount can cause an overdose.
