Police cruiser struck in Orléans, driver faces impaired driving charge

One person was arrested for impaired driving after his vehicle ran a red light and struck a police cruiser at about 1:45 a.m.

The officer was traveling northbound on Champlain St. in a fully-marked patrol vehicle, when he was struck by the vehicle at Jeanne D'Arc Blvd.

Both vehicles suffered damage and the airbags were deployed. The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Three people fled the scene and were apprehended by police after a short search.

The male driver was arrested and is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and fleeing the scene.

He was also taken to hospital as a precaution.
