Ottawa Senators goaltender Cam Talbot will miss three weeks due to a lower-body injury, coach D.J. Smith told reporters Wednesday.

Talbot was unexpectedly scratched prior to the Senators' matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.

The 35-year-old has a .905 save percentage and a 15-14-1 record in 32 games this year.

Talbot will be leaving the team road trip to return to Ottawa for treatment.

The Senators currently sit five points out of the second Eastern Conference wild-card spot.

In Talbot's absence, the crease will be turned over to rookie goaltenders Mads Sogaard and Kevin Mandolese. In seven games this season, Sogaard has a .902 save percentage and a 2.77 goals-against average.
