SIU investigating shooting in Nepean that left one man injured

According to the SIU, shortly after Ottawa Police attempted to get in contact with a 28-year-old man, there was an exchange of gunfire between the man and police, and the man was taken to hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding a police-involved shooting in Nepean that left one man injured, Saturday night.

According to the SIU's release, around 9:40 p.m., the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) responded to a call, after reports that an individual was in possession of firearms. Officers arrived at a townhouse complex on Garden Glen Private, and attempted to make contact with a 28-year-old man by phone and by knocking on the door.

But was to no avail. 

Preliminary information from the SIU suggests, after some time, there was an exchange of gunfire between the man and police. Three officers discharged their firearms and the man was struck. The man, then retreated into the home, but eventually surrendered. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. Three subject officials and six witness officials have been designated.
