Taking a peek at the nearly-complete Blair LRT station

By OttawaMatters Staff

City of Ottawa officials and local media have had their first look at the new Blair light rail transit station.

There is still a bit of cosmetic work to be done, but the station is just about finished — right down to intricate wood-decorated ceilings and artwork suspecnded from the ceiling. Titled Lightscape, the artwork is comprised of thousands of small glass flags.

Mayor Jim Watson joined the tour of what's expected to be one of the busiest LRT stations in the city.

He's still confident the Rideau Transit Group will hand over the keys to the new Confederation Line on time.

“Our staff have told us they still anticipate November 2nd as the handover, and then service by the end of November,” he told reporters. “So I still have confidence in that date.”

Premier Doug Ford pledged support for the next phase of light rail, and Ottawa West-Nepean MPP Jeremy Roberts said that commitment stands firm.

Blair station is designed to handle large volumes of commuters when it opens. This will be the eastern end of the Confederation Line, and a major transfer point to local and express buses.
