Two Ottawa schools cancel trips over coronavirus concerns

By Jason White

Concerns about the novel coronavirus have resulted in two Ottawa schools cancelling upcoming international trips.

Merivale High School had a trip planned to Italy, and Broadview Public School was planning a trip to South Korea; the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board confirms that both school's trips have been cancelled.

Both countries have had outbreaks of COVID-19.

At the Ottawa Catholic School Board, students' first European trips are not scheduled until April.

“(W)e are discussing alternate solutions such as rerouting with the travel companies and we are monitoring travel [advisories],” wrote Sharlene Hunter, Ottawa Catholic School Board manager of communications in an e-mail to 1310 NEWS.

Hunter says the OCSB is in contact with its schools' principals and continues to assess the situation.
