Two teens facing a number of charges, police find drugs and weapons during wellness check

A 17-year-old and 18-year-old were arrested and charged with a number of offences after members from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a wellbeing check on people inside a running vehicle over the weekend. 

The incident took place on Saturday, Feb. 25 at approximately 11:45 p.m., members from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a wellbeing check on the occupants of a running motor vehicle in the township of Stirling-Rawdon. 

During the wellness check, OPP officers found drugs and a weapon, and the two teenagers were identified, arrested and charged. 

The driver, 18, from Campbellford was arrested and charged with: 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – two counts (suspected fentanyl and cocaine)
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose 
  • Fail to comply with release order – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime 

The 17-year-old passenger from Ajax was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – two counts (suspected fentanyl and cocaine)
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose – two counts
  • Fail to comply with release order 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Feb. 27.
