Winterlude is returning in-person to the Ottawa and Gatineau region.

This will be the festival's 45th year, which takes place from Feb. 3 to Feb. 20, 2023.

The Minister of Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez announced Thursday, Dec. 15, that the festival will return in-person once again, which he said will be an opportunity to celebrate and display diverse arts and culture.

“For 45 years, the event has brought excitement to Canada's Capital Region and allowed Canadians from near and far to gather with family and friends,” he said in a release. “From Feb. 3 to 20, come and create memorable moments and discover all the unique activities that highlight the cultural and artistic diversity, as well as Indigenous cultures, that make our country so rich.”

Winterlude will have plenty of activities for the whole family, including:

  • The Snowflake Kingdom (north of Jacques Cartier Park), a gigantic snow playground, which will also include a giant zip line, super slides and other activities.
  • The Winterlude National Ice-Carving Championship, which takes place from Feb.3 to 5, 2023.
  • There will be traditional activities in The ByWard Market such as sleigh rides, food experiences and interactive art installations.
  • Sparks Street will have light display features, beautiful ice sculptures and performance art zones.
  • The Rideau Canal Skateway will also offer a wide range of activities.
  • The Canadian Museum of History and The National Arts Centre will host indoor events.

Other events can be viewed on the Winterlude's Virtual Calendar Page.

According to Heritage Canada, Winterlude welcomes nearly 600,000 visitors every year, nearly one-third from outside the region.
