Police canine tracks down vehicle break-in suspect

By Mike Vlasveld

A 21-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after a number of vehicles were broken into in the Old Irving Place area.

The Ottawa Police Service responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. Monday, but arrived to find that the suspect had fled on foot.

A canine was still able to track the suspect, who was then arrested.

“This is a great example of making the right call,” said Staff Sergeant Rick Giroux of the Ottawa Police Service Communications Centre. “Police were able to respond while the crime was happening and we successfully caught the person responsible. Members of the public are always encouraged to call police immediately when they see a crime in progress.”

Michael Lundstrom has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

He is scheduled to appear in court on September 12.
