Two men charged in Heron Gate area shooting

The Ottawa Police Service is identifying two men facing charges in a shooting investigation.

Officers were called to the south end around 10 a.m. on Saturday after reports of men firing shots into a home on Heatherington Road. 

The suspect had taken off in a vehicle before police arrived. 

Officers found shell casings and numerous bullet holes in the windows and walls of home unit, but no one was injured.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, police located a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting and investigators found a loaded 9mm handgun inside. 

Two men were arrested.

Farah Qualib, 30, of Ottawa has been charged with:

– Use/handle/store firearm carelessly
– Possess weapon dangerous to public peace
– Possess restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate
– Unlicensed person possess prohibited /restricted weapon
– Possess restricted or prohibited firearm not holding a licence and registration certificate
– Occupy motor vehicle with firearm 
– Possess loaded regulated firearm 
– Discharge firearm
– Possess firearm while prohibited

Mohamed Mohamed, 30, of Ottawa has been charged with:

– Use/handle/store firearm carelessly
– Possess weapon dangerous to public peace
– Possess restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate
– Unlicensed person possess prohibited/restricted weapon 
– Possess restricted or prohibited firearm not holding a licence and registration certificate 
– Occupy motor vehicle with firearm 
– Possess loaded regulated firearm 

Both men appeared in court on Monday.
