The Municipality North Grenville has been invited to proceed to the next stage ParticipACTION's Community Better Challenge

During the month of June, residents, organizations and businesses Canada-wide were encouraged to log all individual and group physical activity through the ParticipACTION app or website.

North Grenville has made the list of 50 finalists, and according to a release, spent much of June in the top spot.

“North Grenville's goal was to get on the leaderboard and make the top 10,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford in the release. “Not only did we achieve this, but we knocked it out of the park and maintained our number one position both provincially and nationally throughout the month of June.”

According to the ParticipACTION Community Impact Report, North Grenville tracked over 9.9-million minutes during the month of June, with more than 2,000 residents participating, along with more than 20 organizations, including elementary schools, daycares, fitness studios, and community organizations.

The next step for the municipality is to write a detailed report on why it should take home the $100,000 top prize, which would go to support physical activity initiatives in the community.

In addition to the grand prize, winners will be selected in each of the provinces and territories, with those communities receiving between $7,500 and $15,000.

The winners will be announced during the last week of July.

“This challenge was a wonderful way to inspire and encourage families, seniors, youth and everyone in between to get active or become more active,” said Mayor Peckford. “It showcased our incredible community spirit, and we are immensely proud of everyone's efforts.”
