Water pipe burst forces evacuation of Riverside apartment

OTTAWA, Ont. – A Riverside high-rise was evacuated after a pipe burst in a penthouse unit that ended up flooding the units below.

About 160 people were forced to leave their units at 1833 Riverside Drive just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Several occupants were not allowed back for hours, while dozens others were displaced. They were housed in other properties.

One resident – who lives on the building’s tenth floor – told 1310News what his biggest challenge is going to be.

“[…] You still have to come down the stairs for another week – they figure.”

Water gushed so much in the 12-story building that stairwells, elevators shafts and apartments all the way to the ground floor were flooded.
