Strong earthquake hits northeastern Japan

A strong earthquake with a 7.3 magnitude has hit the northeast coast of Japan, prompting a brief tsunami warning.
Residents in coastal areas were warned to evacuate for about two hours, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The epicentre of the quake was in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island.
The country’s northeast coastline was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami in March that left nearly 23 thousand dead or missing and touched off a nuclear crisis.
