Paramedics testify at the Kevin Gregson murder trial

OTTAWA – A second day of testimony has ended at the trial for Kevin Gregson, the man charged with first degree murder in the 2009 stabbing death of Ottawa Police Constable Eric Czapnik.
This afternoon saw evidence from three of four paramedics who tried to save Eric Czapnik’s life.
Court heard today from Craig McInnes, Patricia St. Denis and Amanda Walkowiak – three of the four paramedics who saw Kevin Gregson attacking Czapnik and immediately took action.
While precise details and wording may have differed somewhat all three recounted running to a commotion, seeing Gregson straddling Czapnik and seeing his arms making some kind of punching motion.
They describe pulling Gregson back, seeing the knife, disarming him and pinning him down while they figured out how to put hand cuffs on. None had used them before.
Both St. Denis and Walcowiak described Gregson as smug and wearing a smirk when pointing out they had forgotten to search him for more weapons.
Throughout their testimony Gregson sat unaffected, even bored, often staring at his knees.
