Junos Week officially kicks off

Junos Week officially kicked off at the National Arts Centre Wednesday.

Over 200 people gathered at the NAC to watch singer Measha Bruggergosman and Hollerado perform.

“Performing there is really cool because it’s out of our element,” said Hollerado front man Menno Versteeg. “It’s a new experience. That part of it is really fun and then the other part that was really fun is being asked. Of all the amazing people, the fact that they asked us was a real honour.”

The band is up for a Juno for best music video, and Versteeg said the nomination came as a surprise.

“Last year we were up for our first Juno and we lost, so we were one-time Juno losers and this year we weren’t expected to be nominated at all because we didn’t have an album out,” said Versteeg. “We knew it was in Ottawa and we were like ‘it’s our home town and it would be so fun to go’ and we had this video that we didn’t really think that anyone cared that much about and then we found out we got nominated.”

Hollerado is set to perform at the Juno Awards Ceremony on Sunday.
