Two Tornadoes hit Eastern Ontario

OTTAWA, On. — Environment Canada has confirmed two tornadoes touched down in Eastern Ontario during the severe weather that hit the region on Tuesday.

The first twister, which was an F-0, was spotted east of Cornwall in Summerstown. It didn’t create much damage but witnesses did see the funnel cloud.

Then, an F-1 tornado hit the town of Athens, near Brockville, around 3:30pm Tuesday.

“The damage path was about two to three kilometres long and 300 metres wide,” Peter Kimbell with Environment Canada tells 1310News.

In a typical year, 13 tornadoes occur in the entire province, so far up to 5 have touched down in 2012.
