Autopsy to be performed Monday on body discovered in South Keys

OTTAWA – An autopsy will be performed Monday on a body found near the South Keys Plaza. The grisly discovery was made around 9 a.m. Sunday in a ravine in front of the Kelsey’s Restaurant.
A police officer investigating the disappearance of a Winchester woman made the discovery.
Melissa Kelly Richmond was last seen at her home Wednesday evening and her vehicle found in the South Keys Plaza parking lot on Friday. The car was found with her keys, cellphone and purse inside.
Richmond hopped in her 2004 gold Chrysler Sebring around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday evening for a short drive, something her friends say was common for her.
Friends and family started searching for Richmond, 28, on Thursday and set up a Facebook page, “Help us Find Melissa Richmond,” now with more than 1,400 members.
One of the administrators of the page, Shelley Rabinovitch, posted at midnight that police have not linked the two cases, and that an update is expected after the autopsy later Monday.
Ottawa Police are working with Ontario Provincial Police, who have launched a probe into her disappearance.
“I can confirm that there is a deceased body and there is a death investigation,” said Ottawa Police Inspector Chris Renwick. “We are working with the OPP.”
Meantime, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP continue to ask for the public’s help in locating Richmond.
She is described as:
- 5’8″
- 165 lbs.
- Blue/grey eyes,
- Short dyed red hair
