Plane evacuated at Ottawa Airport

A Canadian North flight bound for Iqaluit was evacuated Monday morning at Ottawa’s International Airport after reports a possible fire in the power auxilary unit of the plane.

Air Crews evacuated all 76 passengers and crew aboard the plane before it arrived at the runway.

Paramedics attended to the incident just before 10:26 a.m. but there were no reports of injuries, although some passengers reported smelling a burning odor.

“It was determined to be a faulty indicator light that was the problem,” said Airport spokeswoman, Krista Kealy.

“The passengers were transported via OC Transpo back to the terminal safely.”

There had also been reports of smoke, but none was seen.

The Federal Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the incident.
