Multi-use pathway clashes on the rise in Ottawa

OTTAWA – The transportation committee is discussing dangers on Ottawa pathways.
The problems range from things like cyclists speeding and almost colliding with pedestrians, to walkers strolling in rows of four or five, leaving no room for bikes to cruise through.
Councillor David Chernishenko said the number of conflicts are on the rise, and the committee is trying to find solutions. The suggestions include making Ottawa’s pathways wider or creating separate paths for cycling and walking.
There are currently 96 pathway projects on the books to be completed between now and 2031.
