OTTAWA – An Orleans man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing his mother, and has been sentenced to life in jail.
In a Thursday court appearance, Chris Gobin, 19, admitted that back in April of 2014, he choked his mother Luce Lavertu, before stabbing her and cutting her neck.
Gobin said he had argued with his mom that morning about going to school, and he overreacted when she tried to force him to go.
Gobin was emotional in court and broke down sobbing, saying he loves and misses his mother.
The defence pointed out that a psychiatric assessment showed Gobin had a history of depression and anxiety.
Gobin will be eligible for parole in 12 years, and the judge has recommend he get mental health treatment while in jail.
