Ottawa fire crews deal with several fires over six hour period

OTTAWA – It was a very busy night for fire crews.
Fire crews were called to 2834 Sandalwood Dr. shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, after multiple 911 calls reporting heavy smoke in an underground parking garage.
A dumpster fire discovered deep in the structure was extinguished and the garage was ventilated.
The cause is under investigation.
Earlier, around 1:30 a.m., crews responded to a home on Sandcliffe Terrace for a fire in the basement.
The fire was under control quickly, though five adults and two children have been left homeless.
Around midnight, fire dispatch received a number of calls about a building an extensive fire near the intersection of Richmond Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
That fire spread to a second building while crews were responding, and the blaze knocked down several hydro wires at the scene. Hydro Ottawa is responding, but there are no power outages reported.
Monday night, just before 8 p.m., fire crews were called to a highrise at 280 Rochester St. after a 911 caller reported the smell of smoke inside the building.
A dumpster was found ablaze inside a garbage room, and was quickly extinguished.
There are no injuries reported in any of the fires.
