One driver charged during MegaRIDE campaign

OTTAWA — One person is facing an impaired driving charge and four others received licence suspensions, during Friday’s joint MegaRIDE program.

The campaign involved Ottawa Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP, Gatineau Police, Sûreté du Québec and Military Police.

3000 vehicles were stopped at five checkpoints Friday night. 32 drivers were requested to provide a breath sample.

One driver was charged with impaired driving, and there were four licence suspensions.

“These programs provide a strong message to residents in the National Capital Region that impaired driving is a serious offence that won’t be tolerated,” said Ottawa Police East Traffic Enforcement officer, Constable TJ Jellinek.

Impaired driving is the number one criminal cause of death in Canada.
