The former Mountie, who cannot be identified, was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault, one each of sexual assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement, and assault and failing to provide the necessaries of life, and a range of firearms offences.
The evidence presented at trial showed how the young boy was abused, confined, burned, beaten, assaulted and starved in their Kanata home. The emaciated boy was found wandering through a Kanata neighbourhood in 2013 when he was 11-years-old, after he escaped from the basement.
