Two men in their 30's were saved after their fishing boat entered the Deschenes Rapids at the Aylmer Hydro Ruins and started to sink.
Ottawa fire and Gatineau fire were called shortly after 6:15 p.m. Thursday by a person on shore saying that a fishing boat was going through the rapids near Britannia Beach. The Aylmer Hydro Ruins area is extremely hazardous with fast-moving water.
A kayaker tried to assist the two men but they jumped from their sinking boat.
Ottawa Fire Services Water Rescue said once the men were in the water, they were swept through a hole in part of the ruin's concrete wall.
Crews were able to save the men downriver and bring them to shore where they were assessed by Ottawa paramedics.
