UPDATE: All tornado warnings and watches have ended for eastern Ontario and the Ottawa area.
================================================================================
Tornado warnings and a tornado watch is in effect for several areas outside of Ottawa along eastern Ontario.
According to Environment Canada, the warnings are in effect for Plevna, Shorbot Lake and Western Lanak County. While the three areas have warnings in effect, the weather agency also has a tornado watch for them, as well as Smiths Falls, Perth and Eastern Larnark County.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes,” Environment Canada said on its website.
They say there are “a couple of tornado” hazards and scattered damaging wind gusts up to 100 km/h.
These storms are also capable of producing hail and intense rainfall.
They add that the watches also include Haliburton, Bancroft and Ottawa and are in effect from now into the evening.
“Remember, a tornado watch means conditions are favourable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms,” the website said. “Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for possible warnings.”
If a tornado is issue in your area, Environment Canada says it is recommended to go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows — such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
