Trucker convoy protests, winter storm to affect OC Transpo service

Amid ongoing trucker convoy protests in downtown Ottawa and an approaching winter storm, OC Transpo is alerting people of upcoming service changes.

At the start of morning services on Friday, February 18,  O-Train Line 1 will not operate downtown between Pimisi and Hurdman stations.

However, rail service will be available between Tunney’s Pasture and Pimisi stations in the west; it'll also be available between Blair and Hurdman stations in the east.

OC Transpo says all stations in Ottawa's downtown core will remain closed.

Due to the upcoming winter storm, buses across the city of Ottawa will operate on a reduced schedule to limit transit interruptions. OC Transpo says double decker and 40-foot buses will primarily be in use while a limited number of articulated buses will be operating.

“These measures are being taken in an abundance of caution and to ensure the ongoing safety of staff and customers,” a news release says. “OC Transpo will continue to make adjustments to transit service as required. Full service will be restored as soon as possible.”

Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the city of Ottawa around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, February 17.

The warning states “hazardous winter conditions are expected tonight,” with 20 to 30 cm of snow accumulating by Friday morning.

At times, peak snowfall will reach rates of 2 to 4 cm per hour.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” the warning says. “Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
