Ottawa City Council approves Lansdowne 2.0 redevelopment plan

Lansdowne 2.0 has received the official stamp of approval from Ottawa city councillors.

After days of delegations, deliberations and debate, Ottawa City Council approved the the Lansdowne redevelopment plan in a special council meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Council members who voted in favour of the plan are Mayor Mark Sucliffe and councillors Catherine Kitts, Matthew Luloff, Allan Hubley, Wilson Low, David Brown, Steve Desroches, Marty Carr, George Darouze, Clarke Kelly, Cathy Curry, Stephanie Plante, Laura Dudas and Tim Tierney.

Voting against the proposal were Ariel Troster, Theresa Kavanagh, Sean Devine, Jeff Leiper, Rawlson King, Riley Brockington, Laine Johnson Jessica Bradley and Shawn Menard.

Council approved several motions during the days of debate including allowing more housing units in the two residential towers at Lansdowne.

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) has released a redo of its controversial Lansdowne 2.0 project, and the revamp comes with a higher price tag.

The cost of the project has jumped from $332 million to $419 million, due to rising inflation and interest rates.

The plan has also deleted one of three residential towers that were proposed in the earlier plan.

The project has come with its share of concerns from residents, and the area councillor.
