No injuries as Ottawa firefighters take down two garage fires overnight

It was a busy night for local firefighters with two separate garage fires.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) first responded to the 2400 block of Page Road in Orléans around 11:30 p.m. after a 9-1-1 call from the residents of a single family home that had been converted into multiple units.

The caller reported smoke and flames coming from the front of the home.

Firefighters were on scene within five minutes of the call and confirmed an exterior carport was fully engulfed in flames and that the fire had extended into an attached garage.

Firefighters began a fast attack, while a secondary crew began searching the structure for any occupants.

Two full searches confirmed there was nobody inside the structure and crews were able to contain the fire before it could spread inside the home.

The fire was declared under control at 12:09 a.m. and high pressured fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke the out of the home.

Then, around 1:30 a.m. fire crews were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Tower Road in Nepean after several 9-1-1 callers reported a garage fire.

Firefighters on scene confirmed heavy flames coming from a detached garage beside a two-storey residential home.

Firefighters began a fast attack and quickly confirmed all occupants had exited the home.

The fire was declared under control at 2:21 a.m. and was contained to the garage.

A truck was kept on scene as  to monitor for, and extinguish, any flare ups.
