3 dead, 5 injured in boat collision near Kingston, Ont.

The Frontenac Detachment of the OPP says that three people are dead and five others were injured in a boating crash on Saturday night just north of Kingston.

In a release, the OPP says the collision happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the Bucks Bay area of Bob Lake between an open bow fishing-style boat and a speed boat.

Emergency crews were on scene to search for and recover victims.

Police say the three people pronounced dead at the scene were two women and one man:

  • 21-year-old female from South Frontenac Township.
  • 22-year-old female from Elginburg.
  • 23-year-old male from South Frontenac.

Five other people, ranging from 21 to 44 years old, were transported to a Kingston Hospital with a range of injuries. One was transported by Ornge Air with serious injuries.

Others involved were checked out at the scene by paramedics.

“Our thoughts are with the families impacted by this tragedy at this time,” said an OPP spokesperson. “We ask everyone to respect their privacy.”

The investigation is ongoing.
