Man dead in Herongate shooting, police investigating as homicide

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) are treating a shooting of a man in the Herongate area of Ottawa Thursday evening as a homicide.

Officers were called to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. following reports of a shooting in the 1,600 block area of Heron Road.

Police located a man in his 30s inside a vehicle with injuries. The responding officers provided CPR and the man was transported to hospital by paramedics.

The man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police have identified the man as 34-year-old Ahmed Salim-Al-Badri of Ottawa.

The scene of the alleged shooting was secured by police who also interviewed potential witnesses.

Police have not released any suspect details at this time but are appealing for any surveillance video from residents and people who were in the area at the time.
