Charges and $7,000 in fines handed to G1 driver in Ottawa

Ontario Provincial Police from the Ottawa detachment pulled over a vehicle for stunt driving early Thursday morning.

When officers did, they saw the driver and passenger trying to switch places because the driver only had their G1 licence. It happened just before 1:00 a.m.

Police also discovered the vehicle was not insured, which led to the driver being charged with multiple infractions including stunt driving after they were going 160 km/h on Highway 417 near Maitland Avenue. The driver was also charged for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

The combined penalty upon conviction would be $7,000, six demerit points and a one-year driving prohibition, officers noted.
