Lanark OPP lay 11 charges in road rage incident near Smiths Falls

A man from Smiths Falls is facing a long list of charges after what police are calling an incident of road rage.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a vehicle travelling near Smiths Falls at high speeds and in a dangerous manner, which led to an alleged road rage incident.

According to the OPP, the incident involved an assault outside a home in Montague Township. No serious injuries were reported, and the individual involved had left the scene when officers arrived.

The suspect’s vehicle was located a short time later in a ditch along Highway 43 and a man was arrested following a foot chase.

The suspect was brought into the Lanark OPP detachment, where police say damage was done to a holding cell.

As a result of the investigation, Andre Cormier, 35, faces the following charges:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Driving with no licence
  • Driving without two licence plates
  • Licence plate improperly displayed
  • Stunt driving
  • Having improper tires
  • Mischief

The accused was held in custody ahead of a bail hearing in Perth on Oct. 23.
