Disruptions to O-Train Line 1 continue after not all work was completed

There will be more impacts to riders on Line 1 of the O-Train after work was not finished during the previously scheduled maintenance.

In a memo to council, Renée Amilcar, General Manager of the Transit Services Department, said workers will need a bit more time to complete the necessary maintenance on the light rail transit (LRT) system. There have been disruptions from Oct. 19 to Nov. 3 for the completion of the work.

Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) was able to complete work between Hurdman and Tremblay stations during the period. At the same time, the city was able to complete a structural inspection at St-Laurent station, which found some broken pieces of concrete on the LRT tracks in the tunnel. This required minor chipping to remove loose concrete.

However, Amilcar said RTM did not finish all the required rail work.

“We have worked collaboratively with RTM to plan for the completion of this work as soon as possible and with minimal impacts to customers,” she said in the memo.

After the necessary work, full service to Line 1 will resume on Nov. 11.

“Completing the planned rail grinding work is key in supporting the long-term reliability and sustainability of O-Train Line 1,” Amilcar said. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these additional service adjustments, and we thank our customers for their patience during the temporary closures”
