Two teens and a 20-year-old charged after police track stolen vehicle from Bayshore
Three young people from the greater Montreal area are facing charges after police from multiple jurisdictions tracked a stolen vehicle.
It started with a 911 call reporting a stolen Toyota Highlander from the Bayshore neighbourhood in Ottawa’s west-end just after 7:00 p.m. yesterday. The vehicle tracker and live updates provided by the owner allowed officers from Ottawa police to follow the SUV on Highway 417 east keeping a safe distance, while a plan was put in place by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The driver refused to stop at a designated highway on-ramp leading to, what police describe as, “brief contact with cruisers.”
“Officers positioned their vehicles to block the SUV and contact was made with a police cruiser when the SUV took evasive action to avoid the roadblock,” OPS said in an email. “There was minor damage to vehicles.”
A pursuit started but ended quickly due to the unsafe road conditions.
Finally, officers tracked the vehicle to an area outside Ottawa, where OPP was able to arrest multiple suspects who are now in Ottawa police custody.
A 20-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old are facing charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and breach of probation.
