Violent rampage downtown leaves three with injuries; 12 charges laid

An Ottawa man is being charged with several offences after police arrived on scene to find at least three people with injuries in downtown Ottawa.

Officers said that the incidents happened Jan. 16 in the afternoon. They were called to a building on Catherine Street for a man causing a disturbance. When they arrived the man had already left.

Later, officials received 911 calls from the public saying the same man was damaging vehicles along Arlington Avenue. Police say the suspect also assaulted “several” people on Gladstone Avenue near Metcalfe Street, while “shouting derogatory racial slurs in relation to their specific ethnicities.”

Police arrived and during the man’s arrest he assaulted and threatened officers.
